Freeform's Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists , is just as twisty and intriguing as its predecessor. Well, it's complicated. In the series premiere, it's clear that Spencer, Aria, and Hanna have all gone their separate ways. But in the Pretty Little Liars series finale, it seemed like Emily would stay put since she and Alison were engaged and embarking on a new and exciting journey of raising their twin daughters, Lily and Grace. Unfortunately, it seems trauma from Emily's past has caused a roadblock in their relationship. Ali vaguely hints at their relationship status during a conversation with Mona who arrives at her house earlier in the episode brandishing a giant knife, NBD , saying that although they aren't physically together, she's not completely abandoning hope for a future with her one true love.
Here Are All the "Pretty Little Liars" Stars' Relationship Statuses IRL
Emily and Ali have a great love story once they find their way to each other at the end of the series. They don't want to live another second without each other and they raise Ali's twin babies together. This romance suggests that Emily can be seen as the protagonist, as there's some tension surrounding these characters and whether they will ever be together. From Maya's passing in the second season to Paige's involvement with Caleb in researching Mona, Emily's love interests have a huge role in the show's plot.
Paily was one of the major relationships during seasons 3 to 5, the 5 year time skip and season 7, and also both Paige and Emily's main and longest romantic relationship throughout the show. Emily's return to the swim team seems to please Paige and at first she seems excited by Emily's renewed commitment, however when the Coach humiliates Paige by cutting her attempt to garner the team's support for the captain position short and instead praises Emily for re-committing to the team and for breaking a record, Paige begins to feel threatened by Emily and start to act out. Despite Emily's stated disinterest, Paige considers Emily stiff competition for the captaincy. She mocks Emily's sexual orientation, which causes Spencer to intervene by exposing Paige's homophobic remarks to the coach, which despite Emily's protests ends up costing Paige the anchor position in an upcoming relay. Enraged, Paige dunks Emily's head underwater once in the pool in an attempt to intimidate her and suppress her true feelings for Emily.
