The Gayest Place in America?
The Cherry Fund would like to extend our gratitude to our patrons, friends, and family for their patience and support in regard to canceling our 25th Anniversary Benefit Weekend due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. In March, we remained hopeful that our benefit weekend would happen in October. As you may or may not know, the District of Columbia is on a four phase reopening plan with the city currently under Phase 2. This multiple phase system allows for the safety and security of our community which is paramount.
Over the past few decades, countless openings, promising re-openings, and disappointing closings have taught us to expect the unexpected. Is it such a bad thing though? Though that is the ideal, of course not every place in the politically polarizing climate of DC is considered safe for queer people. Like any artist community, it's full of joy and pain and tension and excitement.
