A rapid rise in the takeup of pills to prevent HIV infection in some parts of Australia has been accompanied by a steep drop in the numbers of men using condoms during sex with other men whether or not they are on the protective drugs, a major study has shown. Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, has been hailed as a game-changer in the Aids epidemic, but the Australian experience suggests the availability of once-a-day pills that reliably prevent transmission of the virus may play a part in complacency about the chances of becoming infected. But experts say PrEP is not solely responsible. Condom use among gay and bisexual men has been declining for some time. One of the reasons will be the knowledge, thanks to research, that men who are on a cocktail of HIV drugs do not pass the virus on during sex. However, the new study, published in the Lancet HIV journal , raises serious questions about the introduction of PrEP in developing countries with high levels of infection without a strong package of educational support to encourage condom use.

Few concepts in history have been as simple yet revolutionary as the condom. While early prototypes date back to the Bronze Age, condoms as a tool for public health and sexual safety is a relatively new concept. In , it's difficult to imagine a reality without fishbowls of condoms provided by public officials strategically placed in bars, vending machines stocked with them in dorm basements, and clever Trojan commercials, but it wasn't until the mids, in the wake of the AIDS crisis , that condoms began popping up in national public service announcements and safe sex advertisements. Even now, in many parts of the world and even the United States, condom use is either discouraged or virtually inaccessible despite 1. Today, on World AIDS Day , we look back at the history of the condom, reflect on just how far we've come, and look ahead at where we need to be. It's no surprise that early versions of condoms were rudimentary at best.

Premature ejaculation occurs when you ejaculate during sexual intercourse sooner than you or you partner would like or before you've achieved satisfaction. Premature ejaculation is a common complaint. One out of three biological males say they've experienced it. It often occurs early in relationships when sexual excitement, anxiety, and overstimulation are common. When it occurs infrequently, premature ejaculation is not generally a reason for concern.
Until the s, the Catholic Church was not alone in its opposition to contraceptives. In the Christian tradition, birth control had long been associated with promiscuity and adultery, and resolutely condemned. However, after the Anglican Church passed a resolution in favor of birth control at its Lambeth Conference, other Protestant denominations began to relax their prohibitions as well.
