This is the real question but when i posted it in the headline they tried to make me put it in hockey. Then you start to lower that height in hopes of finding the right person. Does that mean you're lowering your standards or broadening your horizon? Lets say a guy likes thin women and starting considering bir bertha type women. Does that mean he's broadening his horizon or lowering his standards? When you're stepping out of your preference, that is broadening your horizons, when normally you'd go for someone who is 6'0 but a nice guy comes along who is 5'7 and you give him a chance anyway and aren't being shallow by letting that get in the way of really getting to know this person. Lowering your standards might mean if you're already dating a guy and you want a man who's respectful and old fashioned and you're dating some disrespectful loud mouth who lacks manners, then you just lowered your standards and settling with this person when you know there is someone out there who can treat you how you want to be treated.

I see this used a lot and I am trying to find out if it is telling people that you should consider going for who you don't want because you'll never get what you want. And if so, this is never used to someone who can get someone they want, so why should they go outside of their preferences, right? Is that it in a nutshell? I see it used for picky people, but what exactly is picky?
Too low and you will end up with an immature jerk; too high and you will end up single. But what is too high and too low in this game? Also, you can make the decision to lower your standards. Why would you want to do that?
