Putin's War On Gays: A Timeline of Homophobia

'Snow in May,' 'An Untamed State,' 'Race Horse Men'
Vladimir Putin's draconian and regressive crackdown on Russia's LGBT people is getting some of the negative attention it deserves from the media, politicians, organizers and even businesses, which are boycotting certain Russian products. Some activists are calling for a boycott of the Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi though others argue it would be counter productive. But what exactly is Putin doing? Lots of things, which I'll get to in a second.

Een reactie posten. Until its repeal in Scotland, and in England and Wales section 28 had the effect of, among other things, limiting the discussion of homosexuality in schools by teachers and preventing local authorities from providing support services to gay and lesbian young people. Section 28 is remembered in the UK, almost universally by those who proposed and opposed it during its existence, as an ineffective and harmful piece of legislation.

Contrary to popular belief, homosexuality is not against the law in North Korea, and people from the LGBT community are more than welcome to travel here — in fact, openly gay tour guides have frequently led tours here without issue. That being said, North Korea is a sexually conservative country, and this applies to sexuality anywhere on the spectrum. Overt shows of affection by anyone of any sexual orientation tend to be frowned upon, and this is something that should be respected by visitors to the country at all times. As most tourists to the country have twin-share rooms, both same- and mixed-sex couples sharing a room raises no eyebrows. However, twin-shares are very much the norm and double beds do not come as standard, though can be requested for an extra charge.
