Just a little history about the gay bars in Oahu. The gay scene in Oahu revolved mainly in one area of Waikiki. This area was located underneath a giant Banyan tree on Kalaimoku street between Kalakaua and Kuhio. The banyan tree was filled with thousands of tiny white lights and was enclosed by a tall wooden fence.

When you think of gay-friendly, stunningly beautiful, tropical getaways, Hawaii leaps immediately to mind. And the capital city of Honolulu , with its vibrant though rather heavily developed Waikiki beachfront, contains the heart of the state's gay scene. This dramatically situated city on the island of Oahu has several gay bars, a great dining scene, and proximity to many notable attractions. Here's a gay guide to Honolulu through pictures. By far the most popular gay beach in Hawaii, and one of the most scenic and well-known in the world, Queen's Surf Beach is a relatively secluded stretch of sand in the heart of Waikiki, but along a section with no direct hotel frontage - this accounts for the fact there's more privacy and fewer families here than to the north or south. The beach here draws a mostly gay-male crowd, although certainly not exclusively so, as plenty of lesbians and straights seeking seclusion tan their hides here, too.

The friendly staff, the happy crowd, the lanai overlooking the zoo park and Waikiki Beach, great drinks, live entertainment, and even a ticketed weekly boozy catamaran cruise make this a hot spot in tropical paradise! Spent the weekend in Waikiki and decided to try out Hula's Bar upstairs. Great outdoor seating views overlooking Waikiki. Local musician and a mai tai to top off our evening! At the start of my vacation someone recommended this place for good drinks and since then I basically was there every night.
Good food, service was good. There are great views of the beach. It is conveniently located across the street from the beach. We had been to Hula's once before many years ago. We decided to stop in for "happy hour" while there on our most recent stay.
