Although most vehicles use a 12 volt battery that negatively grounded, some vehicles that were still in use as of use a 6-volt electrical system that is positively grounded. Connect the negative, or black, cable from the battery charger to the negative battery terminal by squeezing the alligator clip at the end of the cable so that the jaws open. Place the jaws over the terminal and slowly release the clip so that it is firmly attached to the terminal. Connect the jaws of the positive, or red, cable from the battery charger to a substantial metal part of the vehicle such as the frame or engine block in the same fashion as in Step 2. Choose a location as far away from the battery as the length of the cable allows. Plug the power cord into a wall outlet as far away from the battery as the cord and cables will allow.

November in Solar Beginners Corner 1. Hi All. I've set up a few lights on DC circuits and am wondering if it matters if the switch for a given light is on the positive side or the negative. I know with AC you don't want the switch on the negative non hot because you could potentially hurt yourself when switching out a light bulb or something, but with DC I would think it wouldn't matter because there is no alternating current. Let me know if I need to rewire my circuit. Super Moderators, Administrators Posts: 31, admin.
